18th April 2012; On the occasion of the inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of Pakistan in the Principality of Monaco, Miss Namira Salim, the Honorary Consul of Pakistan held a cocktail at the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco, on the 29th of March 2012. The event was held in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, Sovereign Prince of Monaco. Very distinguished guests attended the event, among them H.E. Mr. Michel Roger, the Minister of State, H.E. Mr. José Badia, the Foreign Minister, officials from the Monegasque government and members of the Consular Corps.
Mrs Suraiya Butt, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Pakistan to France, represented on this occasion H.E. Mr. Shafkat Saeed, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to France and Monaco.
The inaugural event gave guests an opportunity to familiarise themselves with Pakistan’s cultural heritage in the form of a photographic exhibition comprising photographs of Pakistani traditions, art and places of historical interest that are classed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, as well as the projection of a short film about Pakistan.
Photographs exhibited also tracked the polar adventures of Miss Namira Salim, first Pakistani at the North Pole (2007) and South Poles (2008), and first Asian woman to have sky-dived over Mount Everest (2008). Miss Namira Salim has also undergone training for a suborbital space flight which will make her the first Pakistani Astronaut aboard Virgin Galactic, the first private space-line of the world.
In her address to the guests the Honorary Consul outlined the friendly relations existing between the Principality of Monaco and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. She expressed the wish that this friendship would deepen during her office as Honorary Consul, reinforcing ties of mutual cooperation and bilateral relations between the two States.
