| Pakistan has enormous wealth of decorative and building stones of marble and granite. Good quality white and colored marbles are found in Pakistan. Most important marbles are of white color found in Peshawar division (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and green marble (onyx) found in Chaghi district (Baluchistan). Trade Development Authority of Pakistan in collaboration with Export Development Fund, has taken up the initiative to set up the Marble and Granite Technology Institute to produce trained manpower to assist the industry in exporting the high value Marble & Granite products. If subsidized land is granted by the provincial government, an estimated amount of Rs. 50 million will be required to start the institute. On completion of the project, the skilled manpower will be regularly available to cater to the growing need of the industry. |
Establishment of Agro Food Technology Institute of Pakistan, at Lahore

| The establishment of Agro Food Technology Institute, Lahore is a project of EDF. The institute will enhance the Agro Food sector of Pakistan. The institute will include class rooms, laboratories processing equipment and machine rooms. A land of approximately one acre is required for this project. Technical expertise from international institutes based in USA, Austria, china and EU will be arranged. The institute will closely work with the TDAP and exporting units/establishment so as to keep the curriculum in line with requirements of export markets. An initial allocation of Rs. 5 million has been sanctioned by EDF to develop a feasibility study and cost of the project will be financed through PSDP. |

| The leather made-ups industry plays a significant role in the economy of Pakistan as its share in GDP is 4%. Ten years ago, it was the fifth most important export industry in the manufacturing sector, and now it is second, after textiles. Institute of Leather Technology will be established at Lahore to impart short term training to workers, supervisors and entrepreneurs. It will also provide professional advisory services the exporters for process improvement, product development and international technological trends. The institute will comprise lecture rooms, pattern cutting and swelling halls laboratories, R&D cell and Common Facility Centre. Estimated cost of the project is Rs. 200 million. |

| Carpets are the most important and best known handicraft item from Pakistan and a major export article. Traditionally carpets were made from purely natural raw materials such as hand-spun wool and dyes that were extracted from plants. The high quality and uniqueness of carpets established the international reputation of this craft. Although carpets are still produced in the traditional fashion today, increasing demand has led to large-scale production requiring industrially manufactured ingredients. A Carpet Training Institute will be established at Quetta. This institution will impart training to carpet workers in yarn dying, carpet weaving, innovative designs and finishing skills. The institute will comprise of lecture rooms, laboratories, machine room and Common Facility Centre. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 150 million, of which Rs. 5 million has already been provided from EDF to develop feasibility study and PC-1. Sponsoring agency is TDAP. |

| The art & craft of Gems & Jewelery manufacturing is deeply rooted in the tradition of the country. There are more than 30 major cities and nearly 300 small towns where Jewelery manufacturing and trading clusters cater to domestic demand. In addition there are at least 45000 villages where Jewelers operate as single-shop, manufacturing methodology. Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has initiated to establish a state of the art Dazzle Park to provide all sorts of facilities to enhance export of Gems & Jewelery and strengthen the sector. Dazzle Park will provide ideal opportunities for the entrepreneurs who wish to tap potential of local markets and export and translate into sustained business for attractive returns on investment as per the following objectives. This Park will be established at a strategic location near the Cargo Terminal of Karachi Airport. Pakistan needs technical and financial assistance to establish the world class Dazzle Park with all the needed facilities and services at one place. Foreign consultants will be hired for this purpose. |

| The objective set for the Institute is to bring about and sustain appropriate improvements in the standards of packaging particularly for exports. The Pakistan Institute of Packaging would be a national enterprise. The Institute’s endeavor would be to improve the standards of packaging needed for the promotion of exports and help create infrastructural facilities for overall packaging improvement in Pakistan through Research and Development, problem solving consulting and testing, training and education, industrial co-ordination, information dissemination and other promotional efforts. The Provincial government / PQA have been asked for grant of 2 acres of land at subsidized rates. Keeping in view the estimated cost of the project will be 100 million i.e. equivalent to US$ 1.2 million. |

| Multan is the city, located in the southern part of country, at the cross road of upper Sindh and lower Punjab areas and is ideally located to meet the challenges of development which can be achieved through trade. The city has all the pre-requisites of an exhibitions complex i.e. rail route, airport, road network and most importantly the road connection from agricultural fields to cities. The expo centre at Multan is to be designed to include a small convention centre / auditorium of up to 1000 persons capacity, one big hall of 6000 Sq meter. and a permanent display centre / outlets for all exportable regional products. | The proposed project is about establishing a Dates Processing & Packaging plant at Khairpur. The Dates processing project is aiming at value addition, to increase the quality and shelf life of Dates. Its processing includes fumigation, sorting washing, drying, grading and finally packaging. Dates Processing Skill Development Institute will be established at Khairpur wherein, training will be provided in modern date processing technology to the growers and entrepreneurs and workers to upgrade their skills in a variety of related ways. The infrastructure will include lecture rooms, laboratories, processing machines and research cell. Location of institute and area required will be determined in the feasibility report. | Pakistan is very fortunate to be blessed with a variety of Gems Stones including two precious stones i.e. Emerald and Ruby. The other known precious stones are Diamond & Sapphire. The emeralds and rubies have the proved reserves of 90 million carats and 200 million carats respectively. The rest of the gem stones fall under the ‘estimated’ category. Deep green, emerald of Pakistan is the best of the world having a yield of 1 carat per 700 cubic feet. The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has planned to expand and upgrade the existing institute in different disciplines of cutting and polishing of stones. The present Gems & Gemological Institute was established in Peshawar, in rented premises in 2001 at an initial cost of Rs. 38.04 million. However, Pakistan needs latest equipment & machinery to equip the Gems & Gemological Institute to train the manpower in advanced disciplines of cutting and polishing of stones. In this regard financial & technical assistance is needed to expand and up-grade the Institute to bring it at the international level of excellence. |
